Instrumentation: String Quartet
Approximate duration: 4:50
This piece began as a concept for a folk-inspired, a cappella, wordless treble choir piece, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that it would sound better in a string quartet. Thus, Mountain River Run was born. Heavily influenced by fiddling and minimalism, the texture slowly builds until it cannot grow any more and it explodes into a moment that is suspended, almost on another plane of existence. The piece then slowly drifts back into its original pace.
